One of the best parts of the job we have is the variety of people who walk through the doors at Cricket Performance Lab.
One day it’s someone whose playing cricket for the first time. The next it’s an international cricketer.
Recently we had New South Wales & Sydney Thunder star Jason Sangha in for an Ultimate Bat Fitting, which was an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable day working with one of crickets elite.
There’s only one goal we have at the start of each our cricket bat fittings.
Identify the bat that is going to give the individual the best possible chance at scoring the most runs possible.
Being someone who has always shown a keen interest in finding the correct bat for himself, Jason made the (same day) trip down from Sydney with the goal to find which Gunn & Moore cricket bat is the one that is going to allow him to perform at his best.
The fitting process was extremely informative and gave Jason the exact outcome he’s been searching for.
With a bat with a BPI figure of +5 relative to his own bat, we were able to find an instant 20% increase in exit velocity. Playing at the highest level & against world class fielders, this increase allows the gaps between fielders to be wider, therefore allowing him the ability to pierce the gaps at a higher rate.
However, maybe the biggest finding to come out of the fitting process was the consistency in which Jason will now swing his bat. After switching him to his optimal bat, a 100% backswing consistency was achieved. This creates a ripple effect, which allows him to be 10% more efficient with his shots, whilst also giving him the ability to swing the bat 4% faster.
Playing in extremely competitive competitions such as the KFC Big Bash, Marsh Sheffield Shield & hopefully the international level soon – these improvements are one of the factors that is going to push Jason to the next level.
